Why learn about Ham Radio?
History shows us Ham Radio is the only mean of communication when major disasters strike. In the world we live in today the power grid can be taken down and electricity could be "off" for years (worst case scenario). This means cell towers and cell phones will not function, nor will land line telephones. Television and radio communications would also be off. The anguish of not knowing "what's going on" is enough to drive people over the edge. However, if you have a generator and a Ham Radio you will be able to communicate with people all over the world, you will know what is happening and be able to let others know. It just makes sense to learn about Ham Radio and get licensed. It is not as difficult as you may think!
