Having made a commitment to follow Jesus at the age of 19 I was
shocked to find out, some 9 years later, that a lot of what I
thought I had learned from the bible was actually a set of
presuppositions I had been taught to read into it. The issue in question at that time was Christology, but the concern that naturally arose from my discovery was that, if it was possible for me to have been so mistaken in one area, how could I be sure that I wasn't wrong about other things as well? My quest was on, and continues to this day. Along the way I have had many more surprises. The experience so far has been both humbling and exhilarating in equal measure. Most important of all, it has clarified some of the central issues of the Christian faith for me, including Jesus, his Father-God, and their covenant message for humanity. At the age of 34 I am increasingly conscious of how short life is. With that awareness comes the conviction that we must do what we can to make our time count for something. I am grateful to the countless people who have blessed me by sharing their insights and intend to show this by playing my small part in passing what I learn on to others in turn.
